About the CSA
On Sunday 23rd May blue skies and warm sunshine provided ideal conditions for players and spectators alike at this inaugural event.
The players put on an entertaining display, with the result in the balance to the bitter end. Rupert Fiennes-Cox’s team batted first and accumulated 222-9 in their 30 over allotment, the captain himself, Barnaby Smith and Jonty Butler all contributing lustily to a challenging total. In reply, some forthright batting from Jack Walsh kept Alistair Cane's side in the running for almost the whole game but when Jack was out immediately after reaching a splendid century, the run chase faltered and finally stalled on 211-8, just eleven runs short of the target.
It had been an excellent day, and it was particularly good to see so many old boys from the Wheeler era, a number of whom had not been back to Cheam for a long time, if at all, since leaving for public school. The intention is to make this an annual event and with so many talented cricketers performing with such obvious enjoyment in such beautiful surroundings, there is surely little doubt that this year's success will blossom into a long-standing fixture.
