Why would anyone want to murder Miss VK? Was it a crime of passion?

A secret coded message, two suspicious powders and £20,000 in used notes were in her pocket. The police have interviewed six suspects.

Year 7 were given the task of solving the latest murder at Cheam.

The whole year group was divided into teams of three for this forensic science competition. The teams were given names – Kojak, Charlie’s Angels, Holmes, Morse, Rebus, Columbo to name just a few. Their task was to make sense of the coded message, find out how long a cup of tea takes to cool, match cat/dog hairs and fingerprints, analyse the printer ink and identify the two powders found close to the body. The teams had to organise the investigation themselves making use of the time available.

Mr P supplied “Kojak” lollipops half way through the morning to help concentration levels. Each team had to suggest a motive for the murder and obviously identify the murderer!

Karen Jones, who is an author of several forensic paperbacks, gave an insight into the real detective world and presented the prizes to the winning Morse team of Imogen B, Lara C & Molly A.
