Cheam School is strongly involved in the community both locally and internationally. There is an ethos of understanding at Cheam about how fortunate we are within our school community and any support we can give to others is actively encouraged.
Home
Close to home, the pupils are involved in a variety of different ways, from reading to the blind, singing at the Royal Berkshire Show or at local old people’s homes, to our Jazz band making countless performances around the country. In school groups work with disabled c
hildren on a regular basis. All pupils are directly involved with the Samaritans’ Purse appeal, Jeans for Genes and Red Nose Day to name but a few!
In the wider community the school opens its doors to community groups to use our facilities for events. Some of our teachers work within other local schools helping with specialist teaching. Coupled with this several of the Senior Management team are governors at local primary schools.
Allied to this the school hosts lectures where the pupils learn about other countries or expeditions and often get directly involved as a result.
From the charitable side the school frequently raise money for local charities and recently equipped a Therapy Room at Basingstoke Hospital.
Overseas

Internationally the pupils raise money for the Red Cross Hospital in Cape Town, which a group of pupils visit every two years whilst on a sports tour. Most recently they raised £17,000.

The school is also closely linked with a school in Zambia. Cheam has shipped out books, computers and other educational equipment. A group of pupils have pen pals and we also sponsor several of their less fortunate pupils. Watch the film, 'Jacaranda School, Zambia' in our video gallery.
