Pre-Prep

A child's education starts from the moment it is born - new sights, sounds, smells and skills - with its first educators being its immediate family. At school a wider circle of adults and children join the partnership to extend their learning and prepare them for adult life. But success in life is not solely dependent on academic learning and it is not sufficient to claim that children leave our Pre-Prep literate and numerate. Good learners, no matter what their abilities, need to leave our department still excited about learning. They need to have good investigative, problem solving and research skills and to be confident to face a challenge - seeing a mistake not as a failure but as the ‘growing edge’ of learning. However, academic success is only part of the picture. Success in life is dependent as much on emotional intelligence as academic prowess and our goal in the Pre-Prep is to teach our children to understand the importance of teamwork, consideration for others and responsibility for ourselves alongside the development of academic skills.

Sympathetic staff ensure that high standards go hand in hand with the tolerance and respect shown by children and staff for each other, encouraging the development of the high self esteem that gives us the confidence to celebrate each other's successes as well as expecting the best from ourselves.

Above all Cheam Pre-Prep is a happy school where children can develop their talents and gain a love of learning within a very strong supportive and enabling environment, where success builds on success and children have the confidence to try new things.

We hope that this website will demonstrate the breadth of learning that takes place within our indoor and outdoor curricular, the diverse experiences that are part of everyday life at Cheam and the enthusiasm with which our pupils approach every school day.
